Hand Engravers’ – apprenticeships and training
British hand engravers are some of the best in the world, yet their numbers are diminishing. Many of our finest crafts people are nearing or past retirement age. In addition, schools and colleges across the UK are reducing or stopping craft courses altogether; and government support for heritage craft training is insufficient or non-existent in many areas.
The Hand Engravers Association of Great Britain recognises the urgent need to replenish our craft base within the UK. We are working to ensure that the skills of our craft are passed on to future generations in a number of ways:
Hand engraving courses
We have developed a programme of short courses aimed at teaching the basics of hand engraving. Delivered by professional engravers, they are open to all levels. Click here to find out more about our courses and how to book.
Apprenticeships
We have facilitated and supported a number of apprenticeships with leading engravers in the UK, enabling young, aspiring engravers to work alongside a skilled master craftsperson within their workshop. Click here to find out more about our apprenticeships.
Schools & Colleges
We can arrange demonstration days, taster sessions and introductory courses in hand engraving to schools and colleges. Click here to find out more about our training days.
